Q&A: My Faith

I thought it might be fun to start a little Q&A series here so you can learn more about me! Hopefully, I can answer lots of questions in a post once a month. Please let me know on my social media or in the comments below what questions you’d like me to answer. I thought I’d start off with some serious questions about my faith. Because this is such an important topic to me, I want to be as honest and transparent as possible. Now, on to the questions!!

When and why did you become a Christian?

I had the privilege to grow up with Christian parents and made it a priority to be in church every week. From a very young age, I knew Bible stories and characters. What I was taught at church was reinforced at home. When I was 4 or 5 years old, I prayed and trusted Christ as my Savior because I realized that I was a sinner in need of salvation. I was very young when this happened, but even now I have no doubt that I have new life in Christ. For as long as I can remember, I have tried to live my life to reflect God and His love. I am by no means perfect, and I am not trying to attain perfection. All I know is that without God and His grace, I am nothing.

How do you know God is real?

If I am being completely honest, I’ve never experienced thinking God wasn’t real. Being surrounded by Christian influences my entire life, I never had any real situation that challenged the existence of God. I know that’s not everyone’s experience, but I’m just being 100% transparent about mine. For me, I know that God is real because of the beautiful creation around me. Even the human body is a wonder of science that man can’t fully understand. Only the all-knowing and all-powerful God could create a world as beautiful as this one.

Why do you read the Bible?

The Bible is a book like no other. It is a compilation of the very Words of God. God preserved this written record for a reason. Without it, there would be no way to know who God is and what He had done for the world. To me, reading the Bible is the best way to learn about how great God is and what I should be doing to grow in my faith. I wrote more about this in my post, Why I want to read through the Bible in 2020.

Do you have a favorite Bible character?

My favorite male character in the Bible is Joseph (the one in Genesis, not Mary’s husband). I have been fascinated with his story for quite a while. He went through more than most people would ever experience, yet he still served God where he was. My favorite female character is either Ruth or Esther. They both are so inspiring and their lives were incredible examples of faith. Their lives clearly display how God can use a life to do great things.

What’s your favorite verse/book of the Bible?

I love the books of Philippians and Philemon. I have several favorite verses, so I’ll just list my top two passages:

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. ~Exodus 14v14

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. (verse 2) For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. (verse 28) As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God? (verses 30-31) ~Psalm 18 (I couldn’t pick my favorite verse so here’s just a glimpse into my favorite psalm.)

Why do you go to church?

Being a member of a church provides me with encouragement, fellowship with other Christians, and a place to worship God. I could not go through life without the shared faith, support, and connection from my pastor and fellow Christians.

How do you know God loves you?

Call it what you want, but all I can say in response to this question is this:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish but have everlasting life. ~John 3v16

Why is prayer important?

If you would have asked me a few years ago if prayer was really important, I would have shrugged my shoulders and not given you a straight answer. I knew of people who had prayed for amazing things and direction from God about a decision or their future. But I never saw these miraculous and clear results that I thought I would get. Fast forward a few years, and I’m nowhere near where I want to be in my prayer life, but I am confident that prayer works. Obviously it’s important because it is our means of communicating with God, but it also gives such a deeper meaning to being in a relationship with the Almighty God. I’m thinking about writing some blog posts about prayer and some tips about how to get the most out of your prayer life, so be sure to stay up-to-date on my latest posts!

What Bible study tools do you use?

I started using The Daily Grace Company’s Bible studies for a few months now and I won’t be using anything else for a very long time! I cannot give higher praise for this company. For most of high school and college, I struggled with consistently spending time with God every day, and to my shame, had never been diligent enough to complete a Bible reading plan. Now that I have the Bible studies and journals from The Daily Grace Co., I have been a lot more successful with my faith related goals. They also have an app that I can connect my studies and Bible reading plan to, which is great for travel!

I would love to answer more questions on this topic of faith, so please put in questions you’d like answered in the comments!
