I wrote a post about my My Morning Routine last month, so I thought I’d follow up with an evening routine post. This one was a little harder for me to write, simply because I’m a night owl and tend to get distracted from a routine. But on a typical evening, this is what I try to do:
Put phone away
I try to put my phone away at least a half hour before bed, and sometimes closer to an hour. This year I’m really focusing on how I spend my time and making sure I stay mindful with my electronic use every day. I will be honest and say that this doesn’t happen every night, but it’s a work in progress!
Plan for the next morning
Laying out my clothes for the next day and doing a quick tidy of my space may not seem like a big deal to you, but I cannot go to bed without doing this first! My mornings are less stressful and I go to sleep knowing I have a plan for the next day.
Wash my face
If you just use makeup wipes to get most of your makeup off but don’t actually wash your face at night, I totally was right there with you until a few months ago. Honestly, I couldn’t be bothered to be consistent with my routine, so I would stay up to late and crash into bed sometimes without washing my face. I know, I’m a terrible person, but I’ve improved quite a bit since then. Now I take the time to remove my makeup, cleanse/exfoliate, and moisturize every single night. I just feel so much better and my skin has really improved, thanks to consistency and great products.
Sip hot drink or water
I drink hot tea or hot chocolate almost every night as I start winding down. There’s just something about a warm drink that makes me sleepy! I also try to drink some water too so that I’m hydrated during the night.
Read at least 50 pages
Instead of mindlessly scrolling through Instagram or Pinterest, I’ve decided to wind down with a book. Since I’m usually reading three to four books at once, this chunk of time every night helps me reach my reading goals! Also, I’m prone to headaches and migraines, so I’m always looking for ways to reduce strain on my eyes. I’ve found that I’m much more relaxed if I read before bed, even though “just one more chapter” usually turns into “I have to stay up and finish it”…I may have to start setting a timer so that I’ll go to bed earlier!
And that pretty much sums up my evening routine! What do you have to do before going to bed each night? I can’t wait to read your comments!
