Reese’s book club pick for June, The Guest List, is a thrilling and suspenseful novel set on an island off the coast of Ireland. I decided to listen to the audiobook version, and I’m so glad I did! Each “main” character had their own unique voice/accent, and it really made the story come to life. And don’t worry, I won’t give away any spoilers, so you can keep reading if you haven’t read it yet!
Title: The Guest List
Author: Lucy Foley
I was hooked by this story and its characters, pretty much from the first chapter. Foley is incredible at building suspense and piling on all of the mysterious vibes. Right away, I knew something was not quite right with the perfect couple scenario, but I had no idea that everything would unravel that completely. I did think it was a tad convenient that all of the seemingly unrelated characters had unique connections, but it wasn’t completely unbelievable. This book is a great modern murder mystery and a perfect easy vacay read!
Sometimes, having multiple character perspectives and narratives can be confusing and make the book chopped up, but I didn’t feel that way at all with this book. All of the narratives and jumps in time fit perfectly together for me. It read very smoothly; her writing style is amazing! Also, I think having different audio narrators definitely helped.
The Guest List is very different from past Reese’s book club picks. I love that she chose something a little darker and thrilling. I love being a part of this book club because of the variety in her choices!
Have you read The Guest List? I would love to know what you thought of Reese’s book club pick for June!
