The Secret Keeper of Jaipur Review

Last year I was introduced to Alka Joshi’s writing in her debut novel, The Henna Artist. I fell in love with her descriptive tone and the deep connections within her characters. The Secret Keeper of Jaipur is the exciting sequel to the story, which takes place several years after the events in The Henna Artist.

My Review:

Being reunited with Lakshmi and Malik was so sweet! At the end of The Henna Artist, we the beginning of a relationship between Lakshmi and Dr. Jay, and it was so nice to see them happy and settled into a life together. Although there was very little insight into Malik’s growing up under their care, I still enjoyed the connection between Lakshmi and Malik as adults.

A few new characters were introduced in The Secret Keeper of Jaipur, particularly, Nimmi, and her two young children. I was immediately intrigued by Nimmi’s character and all that she had to face at such a young age. Also, I learned a lot about one of India’s tribal cultures, which was very different from the glamorous glimpses into those living in Jaipur.

Once again, the overall plot was thrilling! Joshi certainly knows how to create mystery and suspense while still keeping it realistic and consistent with the time period and setting. Overall, this book is definitely full of intrigue, twists and turns, and heart-warming moments!

I’ve heard that book #3 is in the works, and possibly out in the world by 2023! I can’t wait to read more about these characters and the beautiful land of India!

Have you read The Secret Keeper of Jaipur? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
